2019 Fume Blanc
Our Fume Blanc is a tribute to a wine that Robert Mondavi invented in the late 60's. Back then, Sauvignon Blanc in California was known as a sweet wine. In order to make a drier style, Mr. Mondavi needed to change the name. He chose Fume Blanc as a nod to the great Sauvignon Blancs of Loire, France known as Pouilly Fume. The soils of Pouilly Fume are said to impart a smoky quality into the wine hence the name Fume. As with Robert Mondavi, we choose to barrel ferment our Sauvignon Blanc to impart an ever so slight smoky character to balance the lovely tropical fruit. After fermentation we stirred the barrels weekly to extract richness from the yeast called sur lie aging.
You will notice the bright straw color with beautiful clarity. Hints of stone fruit, guava and pineapple in the nose with a touch of dry grass. Rich flesh and yeasty density in the mid palate, finish crisp and dry with balanced acidity.
