In the early 9th century the Frankish King Charlemagne ruled much of western Europe and was said to have a passion for red wine. As legend has it, his third wife Luitgard was so disgusted with his red wine stained beard, she ordered his vineyard in Burgundy to be pulled up and replanted to white wine varieties. Still today the appellation in Burgundy that retains his name, Corton-Charlemagne is planted to Chardonnay and Pinot Blanc. This blend is a tribute to the woman behind every great man.

This Chablis-style blend is 70% Chardonnay and 30% Pinot Blanc, all sourced from cool hillside vineyards in the Umpqua Valley. Incredibly fresh, the aromas of ripe pear and meyer lemon will pair perfectly with delicate spring produce like English peas and soft lettuces.

I am not a big white wine fan. I do love Pinot Blanc and this Charlemagne is amazing. I tried it last month and am now looking to buy a case of it.
