2018 Syrah

Syrah is one of the most versatile varieties we make. It can be grown in a cool climate or a warm climate and produce equally interesting wines. Grown in a warm climate you see ripe intense jammy characters while a cool climate Syrah can have hints of white pepper, dry aged meat and floral notes. Southern Oregon is very well suited to grow Syrah and the wines from our area tend to lean more towards the cooler climate style. 

Our Syrah was hand picked during the early morning hours of October 1st and deliverd to the winery. We destemmed 100% of the fruit into small T-bin fermenters where the grapes were innoculated and punched down twice a day for 14 days. The wine was pressed off and settled before going to barrel. We aged our Syrah two years in 30% new French Oak barrels. 

Upon first impression the wine is dark and inky in the glass with concentrated aromatics of cassis and white pepper. The nose opens up to smoky spice, dense dark fruit and dry aged meat. This wine has excellent texture with a full body and complex tannin structure. Enjoy by itself or with grilled lamb chops or blue cheese burgers.
