2015 Orsation Riesling
The "Orsation" Riesling is a tribute to the Rieslings of Alsace. This region produces some of the most interesting white wines in the world including Pinot Blanc, Pinot Gris and Riesling. Often the wines are left on the skins for a short period to extract additional flavor and texture.
We harvested the Orsation Riesling in mid October under threatening skies. When the fruit arrived at the winery, we filled the press and tumbled it a few times to mix it well, then left it to soak on the skins for 14hours. The next morning we cranked up the press and extracted the aromatic juice from the skins. I chose to barrel ferment this wine to add even more complexity and depth. Upon completion of alcoholic fermentation we stirred the lees every week for four months to add even more concetration to this dry Riesling.
The Paul O'Brien Orsation Riesling is full of complex floral and fruity aromatics of a typical riesling, however you will find this wine has a depth of flavor and concentration not often seen in Oregon Riesling.
