In the early 9th century the Frankish King Charlemagne ruled much of western Europe and was said to have a passion for red wine. As legend has it, his third wife Luitgard was so disgusted with his red wine stained beard, she ordered his vineyard in Burgundy to be pulled up and replanted to white wine varieties. Still today the appellation in Burgundy that retains his name, Corton-Charlemagne is planted to Chardonnay and Pinot Blanc. This blend is a tribute to the woman behind every great man.

Made in the burgundian style this blend of 70% Chardonnay and 30% Pinot Blanc has bright acidity, minerality and complex pear and white flower flavors. We pressed the Chardonnay and Pinot Blanc together before fermenting in small french oak barrels.  This wine spent a year in barrel to develop complexity, integrate the oak and allow the yeast to breakdown and enhance the mouthfeel.

Charlemagne will be a wine that should age well over the next few years due to its excellent acidity.
